The Blog

After a brief hiatus from blogging in July of ‘07, I’m back writing on the arts et al (which means everything in my neck of the woods and beyond: the writerly life, music, dance, visual arts, and theatre). It’s important to note that this blog is not an arts criticism blog, but more a repository for extra arts related writing that, for whatever reason, doesn’t get in print. I stress this because reviews I write for local publications resemble nothing that is on this blog–and if it did, I’d be out of a job.

The Blogger

Ariel is a writer and journalism student from Mobile, Alabama who recently moved to New York City. She has been published in the Oracle Literary Journal, and several local publications: Mobile Bay Monthly, The Current (published by the Mobile Press Register), Zalea, and The Vanguard. She has been published nationally in Current (Newsweek’s national college magazine), and regionally in Southern Families Magazine. In August she edited a book on the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, written by Washington Post editor and Pulitzer Prize winning writer, Tim Page, and spent July of 2007 interning in New York City at Conde Nast publications. In spring of 2007, she was awarded the Stokes Prize from her University for her creative non-fiction pieces “Side Effects” and “New York Notes.”

She is a former dancer with the Mobile Ballet Company, and plays violin.

Hey Ariel, I just happens to stumble upon your blog while surfing the “referrer” links on my blog stats page. Glad to see that you’re pursuing your passion.

    Hey Ariel,

I appreciated your site. I’ve just been snooping around people’s sites cause I’ve recently opened a group blog for DC Dance. So far all of the material is stuff that was published in our magazine (bourgeon.) So it’s kind of impersonal. But I think there’s some good stuff.

Over 80 contributors in 3 years. Please check it out if you get a chance. Almost all the writers are dancers or choreographers based in D.C.

Hope we can stay in touch.

    Sincerely,

    Rob (www.bourgeononline.com)
