Speaking of friends who are composers (and Pilobolus)

I wrote earlier this week about my obsession with new music,  and how I received recordings from composer-friends in the mail. Coincidentally I heard from one of those friends today, Boston-based composer Thomas Oboe Lee.His music “Morango…Almost a Tango” was featured in a dance piece performed by Pilobolus!  He sent me the You Tube video, and his music comes in at 8:15!

    How wonderful for your friend!
That was a seriously amazing a trippy piece by Pilobolus. Quite frankly I’m not sure how what they do is considered dance– it’s more like artistic acrobatics and contortionism– but it’s pretty fun to watch.

Yeah! Actually that’s the second time Thomas has had “Morango” choreographed to! I think another company did a ballet to it. I think it was in Europe…

You bring up a good point about the fine line between dance and contortionism. There are some things I’ve gone to see (within the past few months) that I thought were totally filled with contortions and less “dance.” I like the latter better and think after repeat viewing, contortions get stale.
