South Street Seaport

March 9, 2008 · No Comments

New York weather today was not ideal–wet, windy and somewhat chilly. My aunt came by this afternoon with hopes of visiting South Street Seaport. I made the mistake of double-booking a day by accident, and had to cancel a few plans to make it out (I have such bad memory!)

My aunt and I rode the bus to lower Manhattan so I could get a glimpse of China Town en route. At South Street the rain and wind was so harsh that people were throwing away their mangled umbrellas.

My aunt described the area to me, but I never imagined it would be so cute. The indoor portions of South Street Seaport reminded me so much of the Riverwalk Mall in New Orleans. We were right by the water, and even a few historic looking sailboats were docked. I loved getting a view of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The whole affair was quite touristy, but I adored the little day drip. On our way back we stopped in East Village (I pretended to be hip) to visit a little Italian pastry shop. I’ve eaten so many gorgeous confections in the city that I feel like I live in the montage from Sophia Coppola’s film “Marie Antoinette.”
