Time Out New York devoted their recent issue to asking established critics and bloggers about “citizen critics.” I won’t write on the topic because I’m too passionate and my opinion is a little too extreme (I’m too stressed and tired to have good friends hate me today–kidding!) but I love the quote below because my blog has the word “musings” in it’s description…

The Internet should come with a warning label: Beware any blog that has the words musings, thoughts and ramblings in it. This is as clear a sign of the bad, boring amateur writer as deer poop is for a hunter. Hey—I don’t call myself a surgeon because I’m fascinated with medicine, do I?
Yes. I’m total deer poop.
Oh and FYI: Dance criticism and blogs were left out of the debate entirely which was kind of sad, there are so many dance bloggers that I read avidly.

I can’t even begin to describe how p.o.’ed I was by this article. Mine contains the word “musings” too — mainly because I love the sound of the word (I used to love that little cartoon cat Musette in, I think it was The Aristocats?… I once had a little white kitten I named Musette until I found out he was a boy and had to change it to Peppermint!) Anyway, silly words aside, I couldn’t write about it either because I was so angry dance was entirely left out. Do you think Gia did that on purpose or was she simply not consulted because the powers that be there didn’t even consider dance a worthy subject? As soon as you get here, we will talk talk talk!!! I can’t wait!

Aw, Musette is such a pretty name! Yeah I was totally shocked that none of the dance blogs, critics, writers, etc., were mentioned. Maybe they couldn’t get any feedback from the dance writers in enough time, or maybe they didn’t find enough information to have in the article.
I can’t wait to get there either and we can definitely discuss it (and all other dance gossip-ha!)
